Figure Collection Hobby In Crisis!
In the past week, the figure collectors community have been going through a crisis, caused by a certain tabloid newspaper’s article on obscene (”Lucah”) figures sold at local stores. Most, if not all collectors in the local community are outraged by the way they have generalized all figures as being inappropriate, giving the public the impression that figure collection is a hobby that only sick and pervertic adults indulge in.
More info & rants after the jump.
Ichibanzai 2008 Report - Day 1
On 7th & 8th June, the AMG Club of KDU Penang held their first big event. The Figure Mall was invited to set up booth at the event, and so I was there, up in Penang. It was quite a long drive up as we left KL at 3.40am and arrived our hotel at 8am, just in time for the event which starts at 11am (without missing out nice penang food for breakfast of course!). So here’s the report for Day 1!
Amazon Shipment - May 2008
May 2008’s Amazon shipment has finally arrived! As usual, processing and shipping time from amazon.co.jp only takes 2 days. Among the 5 books this round, only 1 is mine actually, but I’ll just reveal them anyway. ^^
Cospa Namecard Cases Acquired!
Few months ago, I’ve tried to back-order Asakura Yume’s name card case through one of The Figure Mall’s suppliers. But after a long wait, they told me that its no longer available. Desperade to get at least 1 case to store my TFM namecards, I’ve decided to order one of each character from Da Capo II, Toradora! and Hayate no Gotoku. And finally, after a long wait, 2 out of the many was released, and hop onto the lastest TFM shipment. ^^
Major Haul from Kinokuniya & Borders
Sorry for long time no updates. Need to keep the momentum running to make constant posts. ^^
Anyway, went over to Kinokuniya & Borders today with my gf, as both are having their respective Aniversary sales.
For Kinokuniya, I had a 3-stamped voucher to use up, so had to spend more than RM300 to get te 20% discount.
For Borders, they are having a 15% discount, and for every RM100 spent, a RM10 voucher is given (but have to be used by the 18th of May)
So here you are, my part of the haul (total damage today, including my gf’s, was more than RM500).
*dumped all the books, including the Kinokuniya ones into 1 plastic bag, coz my gf took the Kino bag*
Server Sharing Partners Wanted!
Due to increase load on the shared hosting server that, The Figure Mall & Journey Through Otakuism is on, downtime is getting more and more frequent. This is very frustrating recently, thus I have decided to switch over to a Semi-Dedicated plan. Unfortunately, a Semi-D plan is payed monthly, and The Figure Mall alone cannot shoulder the full cost of the fees.
Singapore Trip Report - The Haul
I’ve been wanting to make this part of the report the last, but since I wanted to tempt someone with the stuff that I helped her buy, so might as well make write this part first. ^^
Stuff are acquired from various shops around Singapore, namely Kareshi Kanojo no Mise (for short, KKnM), La Tendo, Ani-Play.com, Kinokuniya Singapore. I have wanted to visit Chinatown, but got extremely tired of dragging my laptop and cameras around. Maybe next time. XD
Onward…..To Singapore!~
Tonight at 9pm, I’ll be starting my journey by train down to Singapore. This is the first time I’m going down by train, will be hopping my girlfriend’s company trip down (Just in case you’re wondering, I’m still paying, just less a little ^^;; ). They will be visiting the Singapore Museum for a Roman Museum exhibit, while I…..AM GOING FULL TIME OTAKU SHOPPING!~
Yes, you didn’t hear anything wrong. I will be spending the whole 2 days visiting many of the anime/manga/figure/hobby shops there. Will try to snap some pictures of my journey while I’m at it. XD Places of interest will of course be La Tendo, KKnM, Ani-Play, Kino Kuniya (will try only 2, give up going to Liang Court one…too far), maybe try Chinatown if time allows. Oh, will try visiting Cosafe too. ^^
